We're proud to announce the beginning of a series of training workshops that will explore and explain music production techniques using Ableton Live 7. Ableton Live is about making music. When you're writing and composing, Live is quick, intuitive and responsive. When you want to record and develop your ideas, Live has the depth and toolset for intricate production. It's got the features to take your Producer / DJ skills to the next level and it's stable and flexible on stage, whether you're playing in front of 10 or 10,000 people. However and wherever you make music, whatever music you make, Live is the most versatile and complete audio production environment available.

http://www.ableton.com/liveThese workshops will be designed for various levels of musical experience, and geared to connect any aspiring producer, dj, remix/mashup artist with the realization that original music production and live performance is just around the corner. While the focus will be to teach students music production techniques using Ableton Live, the concepts and techniques learned in this course can easily be applied to any other music production platform. The initial course offering will consist of 4 two hour classes, limited to 6 people per class, creating an intimate learning environment where each person's needs are met.
The Courses will be taught by the Aligning Minds production duo, Daniel Merrill and Michael Folk. Both have many years of experience and maintain professional careers using Ableton Live for production and performing live electronic music. Daniel Merrill and Michael Folk have over 15 years of music training and experience in production, mixing, mastering and synthesis. Producing and performing under the Aligning Minds moniker they have performed over 200 live shows using Ableton Live and have finished around 150 tracks using Ableton Live as the basis of their productions.
Course Schedule:
Class One: Back to Basics
- Audio Basics: The basic science of sound and understanding digital audio.
-Getting started with Ableton: The basics of the interface, how to navigate the session and arranger views, overview of starting and finishing a piece of music.
Class Two: Recording and DJing with Live
- Recording and Editing Audio into Ableton Live: Recording a single track, setting up additional takes, recording settings, editing audio regions, editing a drum loop.
-Understanding the basics of how to DJ with live: working with warp markers, loops, setting up tracks for use in live.
Class Three: Midi Programming and Basic Synthesis
- Programming, Recording and Editing MIDI: Recording takes, Using the Piano Roll editor, Editing MIDI regions
- Programming Drums: Understanding how to record, draw, and edit drum patterns with live, using the native Impulse and drum racks that come bundled with Ableton.
- Ableton instruments and samplers: An overview of Simpler and instrument racks that come bundled with Ableton.
Class Four: Sequencing, Mixing, and effects
-Arranging and Mixing: Building structure, Adjusting Levels, Filling in parts, Tips and Tricks
-Using and understanding Effects: Using EQ, Compression, Delay
-Mastering and Finishing a Song
Additional One on One Classes that can be added on afterwards ($120.00 per 2 hour class) -
- Performing live with ableton: An overview of how to deconstruct your tracks once they are finished and use live to perform and remix your music live and on the fly.
- Want to learn how to make a specific style of electronic music? Are you interested in learning techno, drum n bass, dubstep, glitch, hip hop, down tempo, dub, minimal or house? We can teach you the fundamental principals underneath the style that you are interested in pursuing. Learning the typical arrangements, sound design, and synthesis techniques of any given genre is an essential process that can speed up your development as an artist and a producer. We will show you how to build a track from the ground up, the goal is for you to walk away with a finished track in whatever particular style you choose.

- A working copy of Ableton Live 7
- A working laptop with an Ableton approved soundcard or audio interface
